What Needs to Be Considered?
During the design phase, we will work with you to determine how many rooms will require plumbing. Besides knowing which sink and faucet you would like to have in your new kitchen and bath, there are several other questions that need to be answered as well:
- How many full bathrooms will you need?
- How many half baths?
- Do you plan on using a gas or electric water heater?
- Will you be installing a dishwasher?
- Will you be using a garbage disposal?
- Would you like a refrigerator that has an ice machine or water filter?
- Will you be using a gas or electric range?
- Where will the washing machine and dryer be installed?
- Will the dryer be a gas unit?
- Will you have a utility room?
- Will you be using radiant heating in the house?
- Will you be connecting to public sewage lines?
Unless you are using an electric range and dryer, all of your appliances will require plumbing considerations. Based on the number of baths you have, you may need larger water pipes running through the house. If you plan to use gas appliances, those lines will need to be installed and inspected at the same time as the rest of the plumbing.
When designing the plumbing, another important aspect to consider involves the emergency access points. Emergency shut-off valves need to be placed at key positions in the system for turning off the water without shutting down the main water line. There also needs to be access points for sewage clean-out as well.
