Stains on Tile and How to Remove Them
Why Are There Water Stains on my Tub and Tile? How Can I Remove These Stains?
The bathtub and surrounding tile are a magnet for stains, mold and mildew. The reason is due to the large amount of moisture the bathtub receives.
Daily bathing and showering keeps the area moist. Mold and mildew grow unless the tub and tile is wiped down with a sponge and disinfectant spray each time someone bathes or takes a shower.
How to Remove Stains on Bathtubs
There are a variety of cleaning products that will remove tough bathtub stains. Use a spray bottled filled with half vinegar and half water to spray on the stains. Let the product soak for at least 15 minutes.
Wipe with a sponge, rinse the area with clean water, and remove excess moisture. Deep stains may require a paste of baking soda and vinegar spray. Leave the paste on the stains for 15 minutes and remove. You may have to repeat this process on stubborn stains such as rust.
How to Remove Stains on Tile
Removing stains on tile is often difficult since stains tend to settle in the grout. A green solution is to make a paste of two parts baking soda and one part hydrogen peroxide and let sit on stain for one hour. Scrub the area with a stiff brush and rinse well.
If this does not remove the stain, then try equal parts of salt and turpentine. Let the product sit for one hour and scrub well. Oven cleaner works well on white porcelain bathtubs. Be careful not to let the product get on your shower curtain since it may ruin the color.
