Making a Change: International Day of Peace and Climate Action

In case you didn’t know, September 21st is the International Day of Peace. Unlike other annual celebrations, it isn’t some made-up holiday designed to sell you something, it actually is a holiday started by the United Nations in 1981 dedicated to world peace, especially the ending of war and violence.

This year’s #peaceday theme established by the UN is “Climate Action for Peace.” This month we’d like to share some valuable tips with you on how to help in the community to keep our world as comfortable as a home.

Social Effects Worldwide and Locally

Whether it’s the rising sea encroaching upon the shores or droughts and natural disasters, many scientists are raising alarms about the potential havoc that can be wrecked by global warming.

People could be displaced and need to relocate to new areas, and natural disasters could harm people, crops, and entire towns. Even the heatwaves cause increased water consumption since people will take more showers and drink more water in response to the heat.

One of the most noticeable changes many experts are seeing is warmer winters, which impacts ice and winter recreation. We’ve also seen wetter weather than in the state’s past. These sorts of changes impact everything from our hobbies to our crops. It’s theorized we’ll see less harsh winters.

Tree Planting for Good

If you aren’t willing or able to plant a tree in your yard, all you need is to follow some guidelines and obtain a permit from the Public Services Department.

As an added bonus, spending time outdoors helps our mental health and aids in combating depression. That’s what we’d call therapeutic fun for the good of the community! It’s important to implement these practices if we want to help protect the world from the devastating effects of global warming.

If you don’t like these ideas, at Lodder Brothers Limited we want to share tons of others: reducing the usage of single-use plastics, carpooling, getting an electric car, recycling, and much more. Whether you do two of these things or all of them, every little bit of help makes an impact in preserving the earth.
