What causes my faucets to drip?

The most common cause to a drip can be a worn-out washer. Every time you use water the washer is forced against the valve seat. This kind of friction causes the washer to wear out. You will notice a drip around the spout. Replace the washer as soon as you notice the drip. An o-ring problem means you have problems with the handle of the faucet. If it becomes loose or worn out it will cause the facet to drip close to the handle, replacing the o-ring will fix the drip.
Another reason a leak may develop is due to a corroded valve seat. Water deposits can accumulate and cause the valve seat to corrode and leak from the spout. Have a plumber clean the valve seat regularly. Loose parts are also responsible for the leaks. Constant usage may loosen adjusting rings, and packing nuts. If these become loose, it will cause a leak near the handle of the faucet.
Worn-out seals cause leaks. Seals are an essential part of your faucet, constant use and sediment accumulation cause the seals to wear out. Have your plumber clean water sediments regularly, making sure the faucet works properly. Replacing old seals when they wear out will save you a bundle in the long run.
Sometimes though rare a dripping faucet may be caused by a broken pipe or fitting. Pipes develop cracks that may cause water pressure to change and cause a leak. If you checked, all the above and you still have a leak. Get a professional to check your pipes.
